Kelly McClaskey you are getting warmer, your guess has been the closest!

His guess was:

“Looks like you are getting it ready for a helicopter pickup, to take to a remote location.” - Kelly McClaskey

The trommels are getting ready to be loaded up, although not in a helicopter.

Keep guessing people!

Yellowstone with the Family this Summer.

We’ve been hearing some folks ask why we haven’t updated the site in a while and the truth is we’ve been busy!

And it hasn’t been all work… Do you really think we’re going to stop prospecting so we can build prospecting equipment? Heck no!

We had some pretty good luck up in Idaho City this season and now this gold season, for some of us, is coming to the end. For those of us, in the Northern states, it’s mainly because the colder weather is going to start moving in but for others it’s the lack of water.  God-willing the Southern parts should start picking up with the cooler weather and some RAIN, to help with the prospecting and those fires.

Other than prospecting, here at Summit Mining & Equipment we have been pretty busy shipping our equipment out all over the world! Not only are there Pro Gold Trommels in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Utah, California, Indiana, Colorado, Georgia, Montana and Texas they are now in Europe, Asia and Africa!  Never in our wildest dreams did we think we’d be sending our machines internationally after just two years!

The demand for gold and gold recovery equipment keeps rising. At $1,658.28 per ounce, it’s seems like everyone has caught GOOOLD FEVER. We can remember back 11 years ago when gold was $325 per ounce and thinking that it was high then!

When we started the company in 2009, we began by building our 10” Trommels and we have now expanded to River Sluices, Highbankers and our 14” trommel due to customer wants and needs.  And most recently, Summit Mining & Equipment began taking custom orders, mostly to replace sluice boxes for larger scale equipment.  Our larger custom sluice box builds have been up to 10 feet long and 16 inches wide.

If you should have any questions, give us a call or email us!!  We love to hear from you.  Well, time to head back into the shop to prepare for the upcoming holiday rush.

P.S. Please keep an eye on the blog for more updates and promotions!!

We have received notice that our patent on the Pro Gold Trommel is approved!

Why should you care? Because it means that we’re serious.

We’re serious about building quality equipment that is superior to the competition and offering it to fellow miners at reasonable prices.

We’re serious about customer service and building relationships with all mining communities.

And we’re serious about our company. What started as a hobby is now a professional company for our family and we’re here to stay. You can count on that fact that we’ll be here when you need us – whether it’s to purchase a new piece of equipment or stand behind a product that we’ve already sold you.

We’re here and we’re not going anywhere.

Recirculating Water

We’ve asked our readers to send us their questions and suggestions of things they wanted to read/ know more about. Well Michael took us up on that offer and sent us this question:

“If I was going to recirculate my water source, how many gallons in a water reserve tank, pond, ect. would I have to have? Due to the location, which consists of clay, caliche, sand, ect. when would I have to bring in clean water or would I have to? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. What accessories comes with the trommel? Hoses, fittings, ect?”

Well Michael, that is a great question and here is what we recommend:

You’ll want two ponds of approximately 75 gallons of water. The first will be used as a settling pond where your clay, caliche and sand will settle down to the bottom. The second will serve as the holding pond which is where you’ll have the suction/ foot value of the pump. Then from the pump you’ll run your pressure hose to The Pro Inline Screen, where any remaining debris will get filtered out preventing clogging of the trommel’s spray bars. From the screen you’ll run your other pressure hose to the trommel. When your first/ settling pond fills 1/2 to 3/4 full of clay and sand you’ll want to clean clean it out and refill with water. We estimate you could run 10-15 five-gallon buckets before you’ll need to clean out your settling pond.

Gold Mining Methods: Recirculating Water

Now to answer the second part of your question, The Pro Gold Trommel is sold with the Pro Inline Screen. You will need a water pump (100-145 GPM), hoses, and a foot value. We recommend going though your local prospecting shop for these as shipping can add up quickly! If you’re near Boise where we manufacture, we’d recommend Finders Keepers in Nampa, ID and be sure to tell Ray that you want the Summit Mining Special! Thanks for the question Michael, keep ‘em coming!

Pro Gold Trommel goes electric

Boise, ID, March 5, 2010 —

The Pro Gold Trommel gets an electric motor. The main difference? It’s so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Summit Mining & Equipment’s standard gas powered gold trommel was originally retrofitted with an electric motor for the Boise, ID GPAA Gold and Treasure show. With the main objective being the ability to demonstrate the gold trommel inside the expo hall. At that show an order was placed for a gold trommel with a 110 volt motor to be sent to Alaska so the designers got to work on formal plans.

Gold Trommel Electric

The electric gold trommel is complete with the original features: quality construction, a transmission, superior spray system, light weight, bucket platform, and maneuverability. The speed of the drum also stays the same at 19 revolutions per minute.

The electric and gas powered gold trommel can now be ordered by contacting Summit Mining & Equipment Inc. by email or phone: 971-259-8499.

For additional information or a sample copy, Contact: (Cherie Prochaska, 971-259-8499, sales@summitmining.com)

Summit Mining & Equipment Inc. was founded by the Prochaska family in the summer of 2009. After 10 years of prospecting themselves and building their own equipment they ended up with the perfect design for a gold trommel. Some have even called it the “Cat’s Meow”. Finally, after enough requests from fellow prospectors to build them one they realized that they might be on to something.
